For a week, a man stood smiling at the end of Ada's street, facing her house. One night she walked up to him. The grin was painted on a mask over a wooden frame.
She dragged the figure into her garage and locked the door.
By morning the garage was empty, though the lock was still closed. The wooden man stood at the end of the street again, his painted smile now wider.
