A longer medical test left a less painful memory

Can making a painful medical test longer leave a less unpleasant memory? Researchers tested this during colonoscopies: camera tests inside the gut.

They randomly chose some patients to have a gentler extra period at the end. Those patients remembered the whole test as less unpleasant, despite its extra time and the pain that came before.
