Britain’s 1807 law stopped British people from legally buying and transporting people into slavery. It did not free people already enslaved in British colonies.
Someone could still be treated as another person’s property under the system that remained. Illegal buying and transporting also continued.
The law banned participation in the trade. It did not end slavery throughout the British Empire.
