In 1618, Protestant nobles, Christians who had broken from the Catholic Church, were furious. Their Catholic rulers were limiting their religious freedom. The nobles threw three royal officials from a high window of Prague Castle.
All three survived. Catholics said Jesus's mother, the Virgin Mary, saved them. Protestants said a pile of dung did. Nobody knows for sure.
The attack sparked a revolt that grew into the Thirty Years' War, which killed millions.
