In 2024, undersea internet cables were damaged in the Red Sea. Network operator HGC said it sent affected data along other routes.
Several cables can pass through the same area, leaving them exposed to the same trouble. Another cable on that route may not help.
A working path elsewhere can keep the data moving. A backup’s location matters, not just the number of cables.
