Why a solar farm can wait years to connect to the power network

A solar farm can have land, sunshine and a plan for thousands of panels, yet no way to send out its electricity.

The company running the power network must check whether the wires and equipment can handle it. Some may need replacing or expanding.

Those checks, construction and a queue of other projects can take years. The panels need a safe route for their power to leave.
