Ravens take back more hidden food when a witness approaches

If another raven watched a bird hide food, it has a clue about where to look.

In one experiment, ravens took back more of their hidden food when the approaching bird had watched them hide it. They took back less when it had not.

The difference was whether the other bird had seen the hiding place—not just whether another bird came close.
