A resting northern glassfrog can become almost see-through. Its red blood cells would make it easier to spot.
Researchers found that it stores nearly 90% of the red blood cells normally flowing around its body in its liver, an organ inside its body. Fewer red cells elsewhere make the frog more transparent.
When it becomes active, the cells flow around its body again. It changes how visible it is by moving its blood cells.
