The manchineel is a tropical coastal tree with harmful milky sap, a liquid from inside the tree. Even sheltering beneath it in rain can expose you.
Water running through the tree can carry the sap onto your skin. Contact can cause burn-like blisters.
You do not have to bite its fruit to be hurt. The rain dripping from its branches can carry the danger too.
