Why won’t a fan cool an empty room?

A fan cools you without cooling the room. If the air is cooler than your skin, moving it carries heat away. It also helps sweat turn into vapor, taking heat with it.

In a closed, empty room, nobody gets those benefits. The fan only moves the same air around, while its motor adds a little heat. A breeze feels cool because of what it does to your body.
